If you’ve ever left a job before, you know it is customary to give a two-week notice to prepare your employer for your leaving. Those two weeks seem to go by quickly and you’re off to a new beginning somewhere else, usually never looking back. But, what happens when you’ve been at that job for over 20 years and your coworkers are like family that you have grown to love? It’s not that simple…
A little over three years ago, I pondered that thought because I felt like I was being called to teach. After much prayer and discussion, I finally gave in to that call and started school. That was the easy part…I still had to tell Doc that I was leaving. After all, we always thought we would retire together. Although I did give him a three year notice (probably the longest notice ever), three years has gone by faster than any of us expected. Although I am extremely excited about getting in the classroom, I am equally saddened to be leaving the office I have called home for the last 21 years. He and I joke that he has prepared me for the classroom; I’m just trading one big kid for a class full of little ones.
Twenty-one years is a long time… Some of you have become part of my family as well. I will miss our chats, smiles and hugs. So, if you want to say good-bye, come by sometime before our final farewell on August 7th. I’ll try not to cry, but I can’t promise anything. Thank you for being part of my life for the past 21 years. Maybe I’ll see you around sometime because I’m not giving up my chiropractor; he’s the best one in town!
Thanks for the memories,
Michelle
